Goat Milk Ice Cream
While we wait for the weeks to pass before our flight, we keep working on finding the adventures to be had at home. We went grocery shopping the other night and wouldn’t you know it? Goat Milk Ice Cream was on sale for half price! I can’t imagine why…
So this morning we decided to break out the La Loo’s Rumplemint Goat Milk Ice Cream and see how it tastes. I wasn’t expecting the family to get involved in this much based on experiences in the past. We have a delicious recipe for goat cheese stuffed chicken thighs that is AWESOME! However our experiments with goat milk did NOT go over well. Evan, our youngest, always lets out a playful scream when he sees goat milk at the store and tells us that goat milk tastes like hair.
When I pulled the ice cream out of the freezer, it caused me a bit of alarm because the container squished a bit in my hand. As I probed at it some more, I found that straight out of the freezer this ice cream is already creamy, not solid, but not in a melted sort of way.
I approached it cautiously, as I’m not a big fan of goat milk myself, but love goat cheese. The kids weren’t sure what to think of the idea initially. With that in mind, I was surprised when Evan volunteered to be the first to taste the La Loo’s Rumplemint Goat Milk Ice Cream. The verdict? It’s good!
Evan liked it. Taya liked it. Kaitlyn wouldn’t even touch it (she’s our picky eater).
I enjoyed it as well. There was no noticeable taste of the strong goat milk flavor I’ve come to recognize and the minty and chocolatey flavors stood out strongly like a great mint chocolate chip ice cream should. I took it to an extended family function and my family members that tried it agreed that it tasted really good and that if they hadn’t known it was goat milk ice cream, they wouldn’t have known it wasn’t regular ice cream. I wouldn’t necessarily buy this every time, but as a great alternative to the world of hormone filled dairy cows, it’s a fantastic choice.
So if you get a chance to buy some La Loo’s or other goat milk ice cream, I’d recommend the experience!
